Hi guys . Iv just removed and cleaned my pedestal compass........so far so good but cant remember,even though iv spent many hours looking at it during darkness , whether the light should be fwd ie above the lubber lines or aft shining onto the lubber lines . My guess is that should it should be fwd .
 
There is an article on refurbishing your compass in the January edition of YM. It mentions the orientation of the light( I think).
Edit; sorry, just mentions lights but not their positioning.
You should bear in mind that as it is a pedestal compass you will be looking down on it.
If you have it at home you could power up the light with your car battery and experiment.
