I need to replace my steering compass which has "popped" and, I am told cannot be refilled.

I know where to source one in the UK but if I take it with me on the plane is the air pressure likely to have any effect on the seal and "pop" it again leaving me with a suitcase full of whatever fluid they use to float compasses?

Any ideas

I probably will take it as hand luggage but I'm concerned about the effect of cabin pressure.

Of course if I do take it I will inform the pilot in case he needs my assistance in finding his way

The cabin pressure on a plane should have very little effect. The maximum cabin altitude on most modern jets is 8000ft and thats when cruising at 39000ft so it could well be a lot less.
