With a birthday looming up I have been eyeing the Compass 7x50 binicom in the Compass catalogue at £99.99.

Anyone owned a pair with any comments to make?

The 20 year guarantee appeals to me.But on the down side if I dont like them I will be stuck with them for 20 years!

Sailing Today reviewed a wide range of binos with compasses in the December issue. I recall that the Compass ones received quite a reasonable review, though I opted for the Searanger III as a Christmas present! Haven't had any real use of them yet, so can't give any objective opinion.

I just bought some- they seem fine.......we tried several makes outdoors at the boatshow 2 years ago, and thought then that the cheap ones seemed just as good.

The individual eyepiece adjusters actually give enough adjustment to use them at quite close ranges ( unlike most "fixed focus " ones), which is a handy bonus ( for me , anyway).

Nice bright, sharp image-compass easy to see, has the rangefinder markings :for the money-great....better than I expected.

If you're worried you won't like them....don't compass have a 14 day return for credit deal?.

One other thing....

The twenty year guarantee is not mentioned on the packaging or in the manual - so you may want to cut out & keep the catalogue page just in case.

Also the "waterproof" bit is 2 metres for 3 minutes....which seems adequate for the price.

Re:Got them +most pleased.

Ordered a pair, delivered 48 hours later.Tried them afloat in daylight and in the dark.Very clear and easy to use .Plotted our (known position )from bearings taken with the binicoms and impressed with accuracy.

The red backlight for the compass only stays on when your finger is on the button minimising battery drain.

The vertical black lubber line was hard to see in the dark but keeping the target centered in the viewing circle seemed to give accurate results.

Using the graticules to measure distance off gives you the answer in meters but a conversion table would be easy to make.(How often I am likely to use the facility is doubtfull anyway)

A bit heavier than I am used to but all in all very good.
