Compass adjusters

Look in the front of the MacMillans almanac.

There is usually a full page advert from the Association of Qualified Compass Adjusters (made that bit up).

They claim representation at most major ports, by seemingly independant operators.

Sorry can't be more specific, Almanac is on the boat, perhaps someone else can take a look and post further details for you.

Does anyone know how you become a qualified compass adjuster?

I have a steel boat and bought a new Silva Compass with compensators. I have followed instructions carefully and tried various locations in the cockpit but am unable to adjust it to even reasonable accuraccy. Can anybody offer any suggestions. The boat is based in N. W. Lancs.

My 17 yr old son (about to go to university, interested in joining the RN) was solemnly informed by the RN Capt in charge of a training establishment that they were turning away from specialist navigating officers in the light of modern electronics. I take no responsibility for the statement (before you all start shouting) I merely report it.
