Looking at buying a 2.3m inflatable dinghy for very occasional use. Plastimo/Quicksilver/Bombard/etc are all much of a muchness pricewise at £400 -£450. However the Compass 230 is currently nearly half that at £270 - Can anyone recommend the Compass dinghies?

Yes!
Had the 200 and now the 265 I think. Admittedly had light use and stoored inflated inside when not in use but both seem good value to me and have done the job fine. As with most inflatables advise you reinforce / protect the area at bottom of transom where it rubs as being hauled aground.

Seago 2.3m is also very good - and at the same price region. Comes with the 'extras' than the Compass doesn't, i.e. seat, bow bag, etc (unless Compass have these on a special offer again!)

How urgently do you want it and have you thought of buying 2nd hand?
I'm off to the boat in the next couple of weeks and will have a Plastimo 230i (inflatable floor) for sale. It's about 4 yrs old and I was going to bring it home with me. It's in reasonable nick, very light, no patches nor leaks. Includes seat, oars and pump. £180 + dely.

Someone mentioned in this thread the advisability of reinforcing the underside of an inflatable where it may be dragged. Could someone expand that note about where and how to do this job?

I have simply added a patch to the underside of the transom where it laps around to form the bottom and tends to rub when being hauled up the beach. I saw in a previous PBO practical project that someone attached some "L" section aluminium bar to the bottom angle of their transom. Looked rather a good idea. I might look at as similar job but perhaps with plastic.
