.. and if you don't get the kettle on soon, you'll find out that the flames on an ungimballed burner can miss it completely at 45 degrees. Scorches the curtains as well.
My first proper season was on the east coast and I don't think we went out once that year without running aground at some point.

I think that is a good idea. As one of a growing number that have always relied on a Raymarine chartplotter as the primary source of navigation (lines on chart every hr as backup) I have only not used it when doing yachtmaster prep and exam. I think I will try Cherbourg next year with no use of electronics - providing good visibility.
