Prompted by the tenders review in MB&Y I‘m looking for a new tender for my boat in Spain
The 3D 230 air deck comes out well although I’m looking at the 270 for my needs. They are French so (with the VAT I’m supposed to pay) would seen sensible to buy in the EU.
However
In the UK it’s £700 and also called the 3D Superlight Twin Air 270
and the equivalent sold by UShip (French but have an outlet in my marina) it’s €1150 (say £958)
The UShip one is called “Annexe Blanc 270 Superlight Twinair” but the spec is exactly the same to the n’th detail so safe to assume the same.
Even worth buying UK and paying tax in EU (which of course I will do with enthusiasm) :sneaky:
As an aside it’s interesting that they call a “tender” an “annex”

We needed to upgrade a load of Raymarine kit on our, new to us, Targa 52 last year - and the % price differential you outline above was pretty much the same. Thankfully, small enough to unbox and distribute amongst all the other kit crammed in the car. I suspect a twin air would be more conspicuous…. That said, I do know of someone who had a new sail in their car that was declared as an ‘old sail taken home, the previous year, for repairs” and which passed scrutiny by the port authorities..

Indeed, that exact model is about 1100 euros everywhere.
What about something like this instead:-

Annexes AD AERO

(Select 260 from the pull down menu to get something close to your 3D 270).

I have had a Accastillage Diffusion annexe with inflatable bottom for a long time. It has done the job despite rough treatment.

Thanks for the link and could be the same as the UK Crewsaver 260 which I also liked and their 230 reviewed well by MB&Y
Also thanks for the Accastillage Diffusion name, I was wracking my brain to remember the name and failed. They apparently have outlets/agents near to me in Spain

They also do package deals with an outboard motor which look to be very competitive.

They do but the French outlet is cheaper.

Sorry to drift with a general question. As a rule do you have to pay duty on any items you take over the border from the UK to the EU (or the reverse)whether they are new or used ?
If used items are exempt how do you prove something is not new - for example a diamond ring ?

True but only up to the value of about £400 personnel allowance
So if you were wearing a good watch of the wife a diamond ring over the value of £400 then duty would be payable on the way out and again on the way home.
Just wondering for future reference .

MartynG, a diamond ring would have been cheaper than some Raymarine kit !

I understood that duty is payable as mentioned above, so that is why we unboxed all the electronics, and at Santander the customs official looked pretty hacked off at checking cars so i guess it boils down to how fastidious they are when completing their checks, but thus far common sense seems to be prevailing ….

Only for stuff you are importing. I.e. are going to leave there and not take back with you.

In some cases you might have to declare expensive items you have with you when entering the country, and then when you leave they will check you havethose items with you.

This used to be the case with windsurfers in Greece! In that case it was marked and stamped in my passport.

I guess the customs folk make a common sense judgement and assume that your phone, diamond ring or I guess your motorhome? is not exported with you to sell or keep in the EU.
My tender falls into the grey area of “is it going to stay in the EU or bring back”
If I was bringing it back I should queue at the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and get a Carnet and I think pay the tax to get a refund when I return.
and fill in this form
