Comparing Magazines

I may get banned for life from this forum, but I'll take my chances...

How do my fellow forumites perceive the magazine Sailing Today, compared to YM? I just bought my first copy and saw quite some similarities. I did enjoy reading it though (as I do the YM by the way).

I've been reading ST on and off since issue 1. It seems to me to straddle the old divide between PBO and YM, i.e some of the practical content of PBO, but little of the blue water cruising of YM. It also (IMHO) has a similar focus to PBO i.e second hand craft up to c30ft. Particularly now that YM has altered it's "Destinations" section, the ST "Gull's Eye" seems a good resource. Other than the habitual overlap of tests that all the magazines suffer from, I find that it complements the other two magazines (I exclude Yachting World from the equation, as I'm not a millionaire.... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif)
Much to my wife's disgust, I currently buy all 3 (YM, PBO, ST).....

I've been thinking of ditching both YM and PBO in favour of ST; it seems to offer a combination of the two and both the former have caused increases in my blood pressure over the last few months due to a mix of either 'improvements' which are not, parochail ranting by the editor and biased/misleading reporting.

Take both YM and ST - if I could only take one it would be the latter, as it seems to address the average, home waters crusing yachtsman's needs better...

I have been obssessed with photography, cars, boats, and have always bought plenty of mags to keep up-to-date with the subjects.
You do find they are cyclical (no I don't buy bike mags) After a while the same old articles and topics come around and you get fed up.
It's always been so.
