Here is the next poll, I know you all enjoy them.

As a disclaimer, I would like to point out that I am not nor have any friends who are in marketing or any part of the marine communications industry. I have no way of seeing the results per person, I only see what you do, it is completely anonymous voting. Once I have pressed continue I have zero control of the poll.

This is possibly a little sensitive, but I would be interested to see what equipment people are carrying on board with regards to communication and safety.

Please add your details, the DSC bits are of interest to me and I am sure others.

Poll finishes 2207z Jan 21 2005

It is something to do with IP addresses, AOL seems to be a problem as does mine on other polls, I am with NTL.

Kim is trying to sort a fix so it looks at your user name rather than IP. If you or anyone else who is not given a vote wish to be included please PM your details, your info will by me be treated in strictest confidence. I have no interest in individuals equipment, once I lift the numbers I will delete the PM. What you carry is of no consequence to me, I as promised will only lift the answers and add them to the totals at the end. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I can't believe how thoughtless I have been to omit such an obvious response. I am sorry and will begin my penance immediately. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am quite shocked by how many people carry a handheld VHF on board. I would never have guessed the figure to be so high.

Question 2 Option 2

I believe (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that within the European Union it is now illegal to sell a fixed VHF that isn't DSC Class D capabable so if current fixed VHF expires we are now forced to either stick with a hand held only or upgrade.. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

yes, but with so many upgrading there are going to be hundreds of cheap excellent condition second hand units on the market, no?

Re: 2nd hand another option

True ... Would have been interesting to see how many people intend to purchase any replacement VHFs with 2nd hand non DSC..

I believe that all new VHF's must be DSC 'upgradeable' so you can still buy a set which has no DSC, but can have it added later.- Icom do one i believe.
