I currently own a 7.5m RIB, and am considering changing to the Jeanneau Cap Camarat 755WA.

The main reasons are the extra storage/cuddy/loo and less of an exposed feeling.

There doesn't seem to be that many about, but the few people I have spoken to seem to like the boat.

Does anyone have any comments or experiences about this model or maybe the 715WA.

Thanks.

I don't know the specifics, but Jeanneau tend to build fairly solid reliable boats. The few Capcamerats that I have seen around do ssem to be a bit sparse, with plastic helm seats and not much comfort (though maybe more than a RIB!)

Are you looking at new or used?

A new one more than likely.

Like you say, they are a bit sparse but can be made better with some of the option list.

I see it as a halfway between a RIB - great fun, exciting and close to the action, but very basic and exposed - and a sports cruiser - smooth, comfortable but quite distant from the excitement.

I am not planning to overnight on it (although could if needed), but want something more akin to the RIB driving experience and seaworthyness.

I have never been out on one but they look handy enough. If you want RIB like handling you need to make sure they have a suitably deep v. Are they all out boart powered or are there inboard options as well?

I'm considering a 715WA at the moment for similar reasons to you. I'm also looking at the Karnic 2250/2260. Like RIBs but need a better layout and a bit more flexibility.

I have not worked on the CC, but I have been very impressed with the Karnic range - they have excellent sea keeping for a "small" boat. Hugo Andrae has one and is very pleased with it.

I'd be interested to hear any future comments you have on the 755WA myself because I'm thinking along the same lines. I'd like a RIB but I feel there is'nt enough weather protection or storage on the majority of them so I've started thinking about a Walkaround boat like the 755WA. Have you looked at the Sessa Key Largo range or Boston Whaler Conquest range?
Btw, MBM did a test report on the 755WA in their Dec 2002 issue. You can order a reprint from this site

I have taken one out for the day in a 2 metre swell. The 755wa I rented had a single Yamaha 200 on it. The boat performs brialliantly, even with this engine the boat topped out at 40knots with 4 on board, it has a fine v at the front and it was great to drive up and over and into a 2 meter swell, never slammed once and gave great confidence to the driver. Plenty of room up front on the sun bed, good awning. The loo is a bit of a tight squeeze if you are tall though. All in all a great boat and as much fun as a rib to be honest. I guess it would befine for fishing from also. It has a huge lazerette compared to the size of the boat. Walkaround sides are great. Good build quality for the money. I would like to have seen a slightly bigger engine though. Some of them are sold with twin 150hp suzukis but if i was buying I would go for a Big single (Yamaha now have a stonking 350hp v8 outboard) and go for the lux pack of extras. Pity it doesn't have hot water although there is stacks of room in the lazerette for a hot tank (electric only of course)

Helm position is very good and secure standing or seated, i would be happy to take on out in the rough any day. Seating can take 6 comfortably. The boat tracks better than any US sports boat I've driven and never got it to slam. Also if you are buying new you can't go wrong if you buy from Waltons in the UK as they provide execellent service and after service.

Thanks for that - I'm going to nip along to Poole soon and have a look at one. The hull seems like it has a good deep-V which would be better sutied to the solent than many US boats I've looked at but I'm a newbie so what do I know! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks Wakeup - I'm very interested in a 715WA. Glad to hear the hulls on these CC's are good as for me that's the most important bit.

Yep the 715wa is a nice boat, curveir and newer than the 755. I had a US sports boat boat for 5 years and the handling of the 755wa is grintastic by comparison.. Your right they have a very deep v which not doubt costs top end speed, however we foudnwe could hammer along at 40 knots through any wave where as the US sports boat you could only get to that speed or greater in flat calm conditions or else the boat would slam like hell.

wakeup, did you rent the 755WA in the UK and, if so, where from, if you don't mind me asking?

OOh sorry, misleading, no I rent it in Cannes from the new Marina, Nautique Bateaux I think.

I know that Waltons have one down in Brighton at the moment though..You could test drive it down there if close?

I was thinking about doing that but you'd learn a lot more taking one out for a whole day
I chartered a 7.8m RIB recently and, for the 1st hour, it was fantastic. I would have got my chequebook out straightaway if it was a demo. But after a few hours, I realised that, well, the windblast was wearing and I was bloody freezing even though the weather was sunny and warm and it's not much fun being perched on jockey seats when you're at anchor. You don't find these kind of things out in a demo

I agree, a one hour trip wouldn't be long enough, although armed with your rib experience, the issuese you are concerened about woul dbe alleviated after an hour n this boat, although a whole day would highlight other things you wouldn't see in an hour, better or worse , sorry I don't know of one for rent in the uk.

Hi Guys

Before anyone wonders why I am posting, I am basically Southern Motorboats at Salterns Marina, Poole.
Southern Motorboats are the main South Coast dealer for Jeanneau Power Boats.

If anyone would like to know any specifics on any of the range then please feel free to contact me directly.
Please don't PM as I don't log on often enough, but feel free to email me with any questions at tombettle@southernmotorboats.co.uk and I will do my best to be of assistance.

As a matter of interest, a customer is about to take delivery of his new CC715WA with non standard 250Hp 4s.
I am sure he will happy to show you over her. Coupled with that, for those who are really serious, we have a 755WA demonstrator based out of our Hamble office.

Feel free to email any questions
Tom
