Mate has just bought a boat with 2 x Volvo penta 74 engines with 400 hours,on test run out with boat broker both engines died.Agent pushed some button on EDC and off they went again.
Boat was bought super cheap so down to mate get it it sorted.......especially before I go anywhere in it.
Boat has been lying unused for many many months.

Common problem on underused boats with EDC that never go anywhere. ?
Appreciate that its probably something simple and that it may be down merely to eliminating the other 50 "simple" bits and pieces that are not causing the problem..

God I love my Perkins with its bits of Bowden cable :)

If its a2004 boat I'd have said its got 75p motors in. On the trial you should have read the codes straight away before holding the "d" button to clear the codes. The codes that are now stored can be read with the edc diagnostic key. I'd at a guess say based on the boat being stood for a while that as soon as he opened it up the wastegates were sticking causing overboost which will cause the engines to go to limp mode. Also there is a fuse in the electric box that can blow , but as you said it was reset so as long as it doesn't repeat itself don't worry.
These engines are very simple edc tech nothing like a d series common rail engine. The 74 series is one of my favourite motors .
