I'm slowly making a UK circumnavigation (anticlockwise) and am currently in Dover for a week. We're booked into St Katherine's Haven at Tower Bridge for the first week in August, so that leaves us just under a month to get there.

Where would be good places for us to stop for the night (or for a few nights) between Dover and St Katherine's?

We have a fin keel, 1.5m draft, and a small dog (which I understand might be a problem at Ramsgate).

Thank you!

I'd recommend Chichester Harbour, but with the fin and your draught you'd probably need a marina...[/QUOTE]

I think the OP is sailing from Dover to St Kats!
Suggest MDL Chatham as an ideal stopover 45 minutes from Southend/ Sheerness. Good facilities, restaurants etc.

Yeah, but he is going anti-clockwise! :)

LOL

Yep, anti-clockwise from Dover to St Kats = Not at all towards Chichester.

We actually came from Chichester a few weeks ago - we spent a week at anchor there.

In answer to Fantasie19 - All options please. We like to anchor where possible to save ££ but the odd night in a marina is nice to get the washing done and go out for a beer and a bite.

Would be nice if we could break up the 40 mile standard Thames trip from Queenborough to St Kats into two 20s as well.

All advice welcome, thank you!

The yacht clubs at Thurrock and Erith are friendly places and can usually alloocate a mooring on a bouy for the night. Advantage is a handy midway (ish) break between Queenborough and St Kats.

My suggestions would be first turn left at Whitstable and get into the Swale.
First stop (for the adventurous ) would be Faversham via its interestingly winding creek.Up nice and early with the tide ,lots of gooey mud to arrest your progress.Still if they can get a thames barge or two up there your little boat should not be a problem.Loads of old pubs to explore.
Bit further on Conyer Creek with its Marina.
Sheltered anchoring all the way through to Queenborough where you could pick up a visitor bouy and go ashore at the slip to use club facilities.
Into the Medway and turn left into Stangate, well sheltered from most directions, even better is Sharfleet on the right as you go in.
After that its MDL at Chatham or Gilligham Marina if you are feeling flush.

and Hoo if you are not!

As I have discovered, the tide runs quite hard through the Thurrock YC moorings at some states of the ebb. If you are very adventurous and not too fussed about tides there is also a "marina" at Gravesend, locked basin but narrow window to get in and out, would be challenging to get to St Kats for the last lcoking leaving Gravesend on the first.

Gallions Marina

My friend has a boat moored at Gallions and can be quite noisey as you are at the end of the runway for London city airport. Has got a wide window for locking in.
