hi,

Does anyone have any experience of the Colvic Victor 41 as produced around late 70's - early 80's?

I know they were all fitted out differently as typically sold as hulls for yard / DIY fitouts; but what do they sail like? Not looking for racing perfomance but are they of at least an averge performance or is it more of a motor boat with a sail? Whats the motion / stability like, does that rounded stern make it hard work / uncomfortable with a sea on the quarter? I hear they were quite heavy layup, any structural / design issues?

I understand that most of these are a matter of opinion rather than hard fact, but any experiences welcomed.

Many thanks,

Anthony

Some Kiwi pals bought a set of mouldings for the Victor 40 in England almost 25 years ago, outfitted her, and then sailed Ngaio home to NZ very happily, just the two of them.
IIRC the 40 is the same hull as the 41, but with a ketch rig and a different superstructure moulding.

I went sailing with them in the Mount Gay Regatta here in December 1986, and I remember that she sailed pretty well - the sloop / cutter rigged 41 would probably be slightly better to windward.

When looking at Gladys there were a few 40/41's about. All the Colvic Caveats apply. Look out for home completions, hulls generally well moulded to Lloyds A1 inspection standards. The 35 is underpowered under sail (we don't start to think about reefing unitl at least 25 knots) but still perfroms pretty well.
