Are these boats mainly for inland use and and the odd trip to the coast or can you use them offshore without to much trouble and is the hull displacement or semi displacement or planeing. Have seen one on brokerege for £24500 with a bmw 150 diesel the boat appears to be very well looked after.

Hi, From memory the Colvic Traveller whilst basically being a well laid GRP hull and superstructure, was generally for amateur or home completion (as with most Colvic hulls). It was a planing hull and whilst designed for both river and coastal use, due to the large front windows it was probably more suited to river use.
As to BMW's venture into the marine business, I am afraid it was a relatively short lived affair and not without it's share of problems!! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif(I would also suspect a single 150hp more suited to river use).
Finally I do think you could probably do better for that sort of money.
Good Luck.

Chrissy,

That is far too much to be paying. You want to be between £15-18.5k. These are good solid sturdy boats, but have a limited market. This means that the price is very negotiable. In the Sub £20k Market there is a lot of choice at the moment and it would pay to look around and not fall in love with a specific boat!.

Cheers

As said below, most are home completed so very dependent on the skill of the builder. Also sounds under powered for hull potential, which is 20 kts +.
The hull was originally made for the Tod Tornado 28, which competed in the Cowes Torquay race so the hull is very suited to sea use. What lay up weights were used by Colvic I have no idea, but possibly lighter than for Tod.

I owned one for 11 years. It was a great little boat and did well at sea where we got 27 knts out of it. The windage effected it on the inland waterways - it was much better off at sea on a flat calm doing 27 knts. Ours was factory fitted out by Traveller Marine (Colvics agent) in beautiful teak with GRP moulded toilet/bunks/dinette and very nicely finished with soft furnishings. She was twin petrol. But the price we sold for was not good and took a long time to sell.
