Hi

Anyone ever sailed or owned a Colvic Sailer 26? What are they like to handle?

Thank you

I have one. Handling wise, she loves a beam reach and will, depending on wind strength, happily sail with the rail close to the water. In my experience, most as I understand it have oversize genoas which provide the main driving force although to get the best out of her, especially pointing, you need the main up and sheeted well in. On a run, a gybe preventer is a must, as she rolls, mainly due, I think to the shallow keels. Helm wise, unless the sails are well balanced reaching and beating, she seems to have neutral or slight lee helm untill overpressed, when she will round up and come to a stop. I usually fire up the donkey and try again! I still have much to learn though, so this should be taken with a pinch of salt! Engine wise, if they have been re-engined, you should have enough power to cope with most things, although mine hates going up the Hamble on spring ebb, barely making headway. Mine handles well under power, very responsive to small rudder input and can be manoevred quite easily.....except in astern, when she doesn't respond well to tiller untill moving at minimum 3kts. Ferry gliding ahead, the stern is quite easily kicked over with a quick burst of power. If you're motoring in rolly waves coming on the beam, a scrap of headsail if appropriate will calm her down.

Feel free to pm with further questions.
