Hi

I'm looking for my first cruiser and wondered if anybody has experience/advice/known issues with the Countess 28? First impressions are that she's quite beamy and high freeboard but feels substantial. How do 28s sail? Any info etc would be gratefully received.

Happy New Year to all.

Hi Malcolm, I am Hon Sec of the Countess Owners Association and we have many 28 owners among the membership. The owners seem to cruise quite long distances, especially down the French coast (for those in the South) and find the 28 to be roomy and dependable. Many were fitted out by their owners to their own layouts while others were completed by Hartley Marine and similar yards.
If you PM me I will put you in touch with a 28 owner.
Regards, Tony Kerry

Hi,
Storyville is on the hard in Larnaca marina,Cyprus, still for sale.
I don't know the owner personally, but have a friend that speaks to him regularly. Apparently still in Phuket and OK.

A friend has a 33 which he had from new in the 80s. It has been neglected for several years unfortunately and needs a substantial refit but will be for sale in a few weeks. In its heyday it was a super boat that can sleep 8 with plenty of room and completed many lengthy passages.

Well I wonder if Bald_Dad ever did buy a 28' Colvic Countess.. that was a 2006 request.. ;)

I've never had a Countess myself, but have seen quite a few Colvic hulls over the years, and always found them to be very well built. Able to take a pounding, and fitting out abuse by various owners, some with dubious skills. They were a good concept in my opinion, and no doubt turned the dreams of many into a reality.. (y)
