I have bought a Colvic Atlanta Mullion 32 (Aft Cabin) which has been out of the water for at least 16 years, being refurbished by three previous owners. To avoid confussion it is designed by John A Bennett and has a square(ish) stern
IT IS NOT the Colvic Atlanta Mullion 31 which was based on a Colvic Watson hull which has a round stern, and higher bows.
She was advertised in 2008 and this is the archive:- http://www.western-horizon.co.uk/archive_boat.php?boat_id=83. Most of the details are correct but the displacement is 7127kg, not 6000lbs!!!
The mast position and rigging was the same for both the rear cockpit and aft-cabin versions. Most versions have the mast just behind the forward skylight and the rigging going down to the gunnels. Since about 1976(ish) the mast was moved about a foot further back and the three shrouds all went to the deck between the cabin and the gunnels.
I need to attach the masts and rigging. I am happy to have the mast further aft, if required to give the boat better balance, however fixing the shroud plates to the a balsa-cored deck in the middle of the passage to the bow does not appear to make sense. I would prefer the shrouds going to the gunnels, or the lower shrouds to the top of the cabin and the cap shrouds to the gunnels. The boat is only 10ft beam so the difference is about 6 to 9 inches!!
Are there any owners who can offer an opinion, but any non-owner comments appreciated. This boat is now like new, with rebuilt engine, all new ancilliaries, rudder, tanks etc and I want to make sure I end up with a rig that is both efficient and practical.
