Just settling down to watch the Aussies build up a commanding first innings lead on Sunday morning (forgetting this is one England side that won't just roll over) when I heard the familiar sound of an unintelligible cox on an over loud tannoy shouting something at his rowers, got up to see how close they would skim by us just in time to see them row down the side of a small boat anchored about twenty feet outside us.
The noise as each oar hit him was very loud indeed.
The eight was now wedged against the hapless fisherman like some bizarre boarding party as he emerged from the cabin clutching a newspaper the cox questioned him as to why he hadn't shouted a warning to them. The fisherman just responded with a smile and a shrug of the shoulders as he watched them extricate themselves. Then with a not very apologetic "sorry about that" he started to berate the oarsman, then it was "hold water" and off they went amid cries of "my seats broke" and "that didn't half hurt my wrists" as the fisherman, still smiling went down below to carry on reading the newspaper.
And then we bowled out the Aussies.
