Would there be any interest in collapsible galleyware?
Suggestions are for Colander, Strainer & different sizes of Bowl up to 4.5L capacity - they collapse down to depths between 3.5cm and 5cm. I'd be interested to know if this sort of thing would be worthwhile marketing in the marine market.

Not sure about prices, but hopefully enough to buy me a new Sunseeker! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

My daughter has a collapsible washing bowl - made of rubber and the top is turned over to give it rigidity. Ikea I think.

You can get collapsible steamers that fold in like petals but some improement on the theme would be interesting. My wife takes up half a locker with a salad spinner - very useful (not). Plastic so it doesn't rattle would be good. Price would be a big factor so a wider sales base would be necessary to get volume up.

In Sweden I bought some trays that had Swedish charts as the design - they also had mugs, plates, serviettes etc. I thought that might find a market here with UK local charts but in the end I retired and a new career didn't seem attractive. I now give you this idea towards your Sunseeker (although your choice of boat makes me wonder if I've chosen the right person!).

A shop called Steamer Trading does that sort of item from Denmark I believe. About £20 to £30 per itm but seems good quality. I did consider buying some items but the existing are still ok and I have space for 'normal' items.

[/ QUOTE ]I scanned some "local" charts and laminated the print copy for use in the cockpit (A4 size but enlarged for tricky entrances) caught SHMO using them as place mats as they "looked nice" - pity they were not non-slip /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The market is there, though probably not large enough to make it purely sea going. Camping, caravaning and RV market as well, would make it larger.

A big market for this sort of thing is also the outdoor picnic especially at events, where multi thousands go every year.

Thanks for the feedback - I don't normally get involved in the marketing side - I just do the IT! But when I saw these I thought they could be superb for the boat - I even offered them a copy of my PBO and YM sub so they could put an advert it ...
We generally sell to retailers so it would be getting the timing right ... although I might suggest they try and get a stand at Excel ... and they'd need someone with boating knowledge to man it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ah - yer I asked about those ... very expensive ... I believe ours would be targeted towards the more £ concious consumer ....

apparently it won't be enough to get me a Sunseeker ... but I might be able to afford a SunHat .... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Na - same sort of concept - flat for storage, but different flexible material ...

This is one of them - they are all of the same style.

If you are looking for a pricing strategy Mrs_E bought 6 bowls of that kind of construction for 20 euros in St Vaast last month. And that's about top whack of we'd be prepared to pay.

See you on the stall at LIBS, next to the 'last drill bit i'll ever need', the 'patent arthritis cure' and the 'cleaner that will take every stain without damaging the underlying coating' stands...

/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif thanks - the RRPs are between 8 and 13 quid EACH for the bowls (I didn't think we had chandlery in our name ... better go and check /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif) similar for the colanders and a whopping £18 for the rectangular over the sink strainer ...(really useful for the marine market with primarily round sinks!) I think I'll have a couple of bowls and a colander at staff price! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Should've thought about it earlier and got a stand at SIBS ... ah well ... always next year!

What prompted this was a colleague searching through Yellow pages for local chandlers who might want to stock it ... keep an eyeout for an ad in your copy of PBO/YM/ST .... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
