last wednesday evening I went up to the boat

that night the temperature fell to around five below

snug in two sleeping bags

but getting up in the morning was a bit of a challenge

lovely ice patterns on the hatch - but then I realised that they were made from my own bodily exudations of beer and curry

all ropes as stiff as boards and pontoons very slippery

Why not put a little oli fired radiator on your boat if you got electricity? This is the one i used to have:

Ahh, bless. You're not that familiar with Dylan's style of sailing are you? :D

Seriously, you will enjoy looking at a selection of his Keep Turning Left utube offerings, then go to the KTL site & buy yourself a download of a DVD or three for the winter holiday at the end of the month.

DYlan, a pair of those cheap slip on rubber overshoes with steel grips - before KTL changes to Keep Falling Over.

lekkie

I do have lekkie on the boat when on the pontoon

so I can run the fan heater for five minutes and the place is toasty

then I switch over to the candles or the Origo

I actually like sleeping on an icey cold boat

snuggling down under two sleeping bags and with my black thinsulate hat on

sleep like a log

as for the pontoons

the technique is to learn to walk like a flat footed old man

one day it will get me

but....

so far so good

of course I am much safer when I do not have the camera running

D

Indeed - I like sleeping in a cold bedroom. I have a down duvet that's about a foot thick :)

Trouble is, if I leave the window open so it's cold overnight, the room is so bloody freezing in the morning that I don't get out of bed and am late for work :D

i always found the smell and the way fan heaters work to be inferior to a little oil radiator, and as for you ard nuts that sleep in below 0c conditions i'll stick with my Eberspacher and the nice toasty warmth you get in the heads when the late night pee is required

Toasty aboard, heating off at bedtime, lots of duvets though, incl one underneath-well why not?
Took me years to realise that sleeping 'cold' is actually burning fuel instead of resting, duh:)
Oil filled wee radiators I find highly economical and effective ( and quiet and safe) if going the 'leccy route.
And...tadahhh.....A hot water bottle. So simple, so great:)

What you need is a small candle and a couple of plant pots. Apparently, you can produce 10KW of heat from them, or so I've heard :)

Unfortunately naked flames not an option in the confines of KTL following a night of Dylan's Beer+Curry indulgecies.....errr..

It has to be done right. What you need is some way to combine the candle-driven plant-pot thermo-nuclear reactor with the Davy lamp.

Kinder to nature

Ooops...

Lost three canaries this weekend testing the air........

Must re-think the diet.....

More pastry based product perhaps and less greens ?

Is a pot noodle one of my "five a day"?....discuss.....

Top tip for the late night pee for men of a certain age in a freezing boat.Keep a cyclists water bottle in the sleeping bag.Empty promptly in morning in case of accidental use.

Keeping a bottle handy I can understand, especially if you don't have a heads or it's inconvenient to use. But keeping it in the sleeping bag?

When you get to Newcastle it will be spring ... so you will miss the sight of the locals only wearing a vest and nothing more when the is a hard frost on the ground..

Seems they breed then tough (or stupid) up there:rolleyes:
