My Yanmar 3GM stops after a cold start. Starting is no problem, engine fires easily.
When i rev up it chokes, even without prop. After 30 secs or so i can rev up but when i return to idle it stops.
When i start, leave it idle for 2-3 mins all is well.

This behaviour may be awkward in a emergency situation when i decide i suddenly need power.

All suggestions are very welcome.

Happy sailing, Steffen

Unless it produces black smoke when it chokes, there is a fuel shortage on startup. This could be a partially blocked filter which is freeing up after a few minutes of use, or a very small air leak which is causing restriction of the fuel - enough to run on tickover but not at speed, or if you have flexible pipes one has collapsed and only allows sufficient fuel to flow when it has warmed up and has become more flexible. Could be also a fuel line is partially blocked somewhere. Check the fuel filters right through, and make sure everything is running clear.

If there is black smoke then the air filter could be at fault as susggested, or some other blockage in the induction system.

If its none of these, then possibly the injector pump has developed a fault - a sticky governor for example, needing professional attention.
