Colchester help needed - Urgent!

I have the chance of a couple of days (1 night) away sailing. Being registered. blind I need sighted crew and middle son is free Sunday and Monday. So far so good. However Sunday night is tango class night in Colchester. The missus does not want to miss her tango. I have a cunning plan that could keep everyone happy. Sail from Maldon, up the Colne, missus picks me up and we go to tango. She drops me back at boat, sail back to Maldon Monday. Sorted.
But where can one moor/anchor near Colchester? Never been further than Pyfleet creek. She will be coming from Chelmsford.

Any suggestions? Time is short.

I live in West Mersea and was born about half a mile from the Hythe and I would normally say I know it well - However, they have recently built a foot bridge over the Colne, and I cannot recall how far down it is.

In Colchester Hythe you could moor next to the quay, but it dries and you would only be able to get there at high water. You would not be able to leave Maldon until about 09.00 on Sunday, and you would not get up to the Hythe until well after high water, if at all - What about stopping at Rowhedge, there is a bit more water but not much more, but at least it is a nicer place to stay than Hythe Quay. Why not stop at Mersea?

Steve - have a look at my thread re Wivenhoe. You can tie up against the wall by the pub in Rowhedge but will probably be at an angle all night. You would also need a ladder at low water. The sailing club pontoon just before the tidal barrier at Wivenhoe looks like your best bet.

Have a great trip (video to follow no doubt :)).

Rowhedge looks good as the missus will have a shorter drive. Sailing all day, 3 hour tango practice. Back to the Anchor to prise middle son out, kip at funny angle, days sail back to Maldon followed by family BBQ. Am I overdoing it?

Unless the Tango is in Old Heath or somewhere near, Rowhedge is not much nearer Colchester than Wivenhoe.

Yes - I think you might be overdoing it
 
Not much above Rowhedge a few liveaboards opposite B&Q at the hythe but and industrial waste land - , Wivenhoe has train station, both have buses to Colchester by B&Q at the hythe if that helps

What truly lovely people you are too, always to be relied upon in time of need. Problem solved however. Middle son has just announced that he is also free Momday and Tuesday! So tango for the missus Sunday, put of family BBQ to next Sunday. River Colne Monday and Tuesday:). Winds look a bit less gusty too! Panic over. Thanks again, the Anchor looks good, (thanks Davidofmersea, I will ring them). And thanks Moodysabre, google Earth is brilliant.
