Thank you to all who gave me advice on the use of Coelan. To keep you up dated we dropped the mast last Monday and have spent this week renovating it. We stripped it back to bare doug fir, applyed the primer on Tuesday. Wednesday it had two unthinned coats. Thursday it had two 10% thinned coats. Fridays was a good day and I managed three coats of 10% thinned. Today (Saturday), saw the last coat unthinned. So that's 8 coats in all, three of which are unthinned. I found that the first coat was difficult to apply to avoid sagging but as the coats were applied it became less prone. The advice on using the hot air gun to expel air from the opened can worked fine. I did manage to keep a quantity in a glass jar over night, however I was unable to open the jar ! (had to cut the lid off). The finish is superb, better than I expected. Lets hope it passes the test of time. Its got to last as least four years, then Im in profit ( cost of coelan V mast down and up twice ) Mast back up on Monday, then back to sea. Good sailing everyone

Its been on my masts for four yars in the meddy, looks a little dull now, but a polish sorts that. I hope you put about 3-4 coats of primer on?? Thats what does the work of UV protecting. Its damn good stuff!
