I intend to code my S37 to do a bit of teaching on in the summer, and perhaps the odd charter.

I've had a pre survey for the necessary changes, none too major except......

the 1m high bulwark/guardrail rule.

It was suggested I need to raise the rail all around the rear seating by12cm. It will not only look cr*p, it will make getting onto the sidedecks far more difficult.

So does anyone have or has anyone own or seen a coded S37? How was this issue dealt with? Descriptions or even better photos please.

You should read the rules yourself when coding, not follow surveyors orders like he is 100pc in charge

I don't have it in front of me but the clause containing the 1m rule contains an exception where the 1m rails would not be practical or wd interfere with operating the vessel (don't quote me there; check the actual word)

I used this twice when coding sq58 whose sides are 850mm to avoid higher rails. They wd have interfered with cleats and winches I said. Surveyor accepted this so I have 850mm and that's that

Seriously, coding a boat spoils it if you don't take charge. I aim to code boat so you can't tell. The horseshoes can be hidden; the radar refl can be in a locker; etc, if you actually read the rules and argue your corner. Good luck!

Have a chat to the Sealine Sea School, they used to have an S37 (before upgrading to the S38) I'm sure they wouldn't have made a mod that would effect the sell on value.
I think powerskipper on this forum may even have worked as a trainer on it.
