I need to replace my cockpit locker lids/seats this winter on my Halmatic 30. I am thinking of 18mm marine ply edged with mahogany strip. Grateful for advice on a suitable non skid surface. I’m thinking of gluing the edging before several coats of epoxy, then Kiwigrip over the upper surface of the plywood and wood skin over the mahogany. Looking for a low maintenance solution. Is this a sensible proposal.

I did exactly this on Jissel - edged ply. Use a hockey stick moulding with the overlap on the bottom as a drip stop. I finished mine with le Tonkinois, which gives a high gloss, but non-slip finish that doesn't detach like varnish if it gets damaged - just rub it down and give a few more coats.

Many thanks for this info. Reading the instructions for Le Tonkinois it seems that it should be applied to bare wood in order to fully soak into the wood. So no epoxy coating, just straight into several coats of ale Tonk?

Epoxy is overkill on good quality ply that is painted properly (on both sides) and end grain edged in hardwood. Coat the hardwood edging in Woodskin (4 coats) for a durable finish.
