Hi all, can someone plz recommend a good instructional video for repairing former instrument holes in my cockpit, and a chimney hole in the coach roof.

Thanks in advance.
Dave

No instructions needed really.Use Polyester resin because this way you can use flow coat or gelcoat to finish the repair. If the hole is on a flat surface, coat a painted or varnished (with two pack) bit of plywood with 5 layers of mould releasing wax.The holes should be chamfered on the outside and inside.Cover the hole with the plywood and press it on with a wedge or some other arrangement. From the inside apply several coats of Gelcoat or flowcoat of the closest possible colour to the existing gelcoat.Laminate from the interior after the gelcoat has gone sticky and match the thickness of the surrounding laminate. When everyting has cured remove plywood ,sand and polish. If there is not enough access from the inside close the hole from behind with plywood covered in parcel tape, laminate from the outside and grind down when cured so you can apply some flow coat, thickened if possible.Sand and make flush and polish. The colour won't be a perfect match but it will even out with time.

The actual fibreglass structural repair is fairly easy. The reall hard part is finishing to amtch the surrounding GRP. You can try for pigment in resin to amtch the gel coat but most likely you will end up painting the whole thing. Which can end up being whole deck. Polyester is Ok for this type of repair although epoxy is better in critical locations.
Polyester is easier to get hard in cold conditions and is cheaper. Use chop strand mat for glass. Make sure it is well hard before you try to grind or sand to shape as soft resin will just clog the sand paper So plan to do the whole thing over many weeks. good luck olewill
