Premier Marinas have taken back the premises formerly known as Coburns and are seeking new tenants. They hope to have someone in for the new season but I'm a little doubtful as the season is now here.

That's a shame. I used to enjoy going in there when in Gosport.

Big van there on Tuesday AM clearing the building; the tenant Clive was about and seened cheery to be shot of the place. Premier need to be more selective in leasing this site out again but considering the lack of anywhere in Gosport to go and have a reasonable meal and a drink this site must be a money spinner for someone with a bit of nous. At least bring back the man who did bacon butties and tea from the portacabins pre Coburns. Why is Gosport such a wasteland from a restaurant standpoint ?

not supprised

Anyone who knows the reasons why things didn't work out with Coburns should not be supprised with it closing.
To start with, Premier put up a building for the bar / resturant that did not meet the enviromental health regulations so the ability to cook anything was very limited. Then they tried to changed the contract from 10 years to 3, finally accepting 5 with a notice clause.

Why would any owner invest in a business that the landlord can pull from under you with little notice.
Add to that the complaints from the flats which were never ending. Even if a car was started after 10pm, they would complain to the council. Any intoxicated persons around the marina were blamed on the place - even if it was not open that night.

It's easy to work out. Premier will not get anyone to operate the place with the conditions they impose and the price they charge for what is a shed that doesn't meet fire regulations for cooking food.

Now to be fair to Premier, they are only the front for the much larger developer that will, when the time is right, develop the marina into a large block of flats overlooking the harbour. Anyone who has a boat in the marina must have noticed there has been minimal, if any maintenance in the last 5 or more years.

Come on, its so easy to work out how this will play out. When the financial climate is right and building is profitable again, the work will start. Buildings will go up all along the front and lsat of all will be the marina. Then prices will hit the roof.

Anyone who remembers the last time, withthe flats going up might remember the promses made by the marina management of new facilities - followed by many years of portacabins. Finally these were put in but as far away from the boats as could be managed. Why - ready for the new buildings when the time is right.

Now who would want to run a business in this marina. |Of course Clive was very happy to have gotten out!
