I've had this radio for years and never give it a second thought. It just works if you charge it up. Last year it died. Surprise, surprise, the original batteries (15 years old?) had finally given up.

I've just replaced them with 'Energiser 2300mah' rechargeable batteries and the radio is alive again.

These batteries came fully charged, they are still fully charged 'cos the radio hasn't been used yet this year...but...when I put the radio into the cradle to check charging the red charging light thereon doesn't light.

Yes, I've checked, power is getting to the cradle.

So, am I right in assuming that the red light on the cradle is supposed to go off when the batteries are fully charged? I cannot remember what it was like when it was new!

Electrically challenged I am.

The owner's manual doesn't say - only that the red light indicates that the radio is properly seated in the cradle, and that the charger is operating.

Hi
I have the almost identical model, except having the Bluetooth ability. It’s the 550. Since your post. I’ve had it on charge and it’s turned from red to green. It has the original lithium ion battery on it though. Never tried it with normal AA rechargeable batteries. It does work with normal AA, but not sure if the charger it comes with is meant to work with the rechargeable batteries you are trying. Did it not come with the Li-ion pack?

Thanks for checking the manual, helpful innit!

QBhoy, I think yours is much more recent. Mine has 6 AAs in it and I've chucked the old ones so can't remember their 'mah'. Never ever seen a green light. Guessing it is a previous generation. I'll run the batteries down a bit when on the water today and then try charging.
