The technical committee of the cruising association (RATS) www.theca.org.uk is once again asking its members for information on 2017 coastguard transmission quality, the CA first did this in 2016. details on the initiative are as below......

Coastguard VHF Transmissions 2017 – RATS request for information

Once again RATS is considering the quality of VHF transmissions from HM Coastguard during the 2017 season.

RATS asks all members who encounter poor quality Coastguard transmissions to report these by emailing a description of the quality of the transmission, the time and date, type of transceiver (handheld or mast antenna) and, if mast antenna, the height of antenna, their position and the channel(s) affected to rats@theca.org.uk. Alternatively please post on the Technical and Weather Talk Forum with your experiences under the topic Coastguard VHF Transmissions 2017 – RATS request for information. This topic can be found here. This method proved popular in 2016. RATS analysis of the 2016 reports can be found here.

RATS would like to thank all those who contributed in 2016 and to encourage all members to do so in 2017. Even general reports such as “poor reception in July and August in the Dartmouth vicinity” are useful.
