"Shortly after the search had begun two male bodies were located by Felixstowe Harbour Master and the Harwich Inshore Lifeboat."

So sad especially to hear of it at this time of the year

Report here

I had 22kts SW'ly, choppy in the Roach and a very high tide at Rochford. Not a large leap of imagination a few miles up the coast to be the same, esp on the Deben.
Nearly got in trouble there on one occasion in my inflatable.

They were my two best mates. We had 3 boats on the Deben and had a "Yacht Club" meeting every Tuesday back home, for the last ten years. They were forum members and very experienced sailors. I would normally have been with them but was on domestic duty. Got the call at 6 o'clock tonight on Nottingham Railway Station!

Our boats were normally moored at Ramsholt, so we all knew the river very well indeed.

I may learn more tomorrow when I go down there but will have to wait until the inquest is completed before I can comment further.

Very sad and a shock to learn today that they were yachtsmen I had met & chatted with on the quayside last season. Too early to know the cause but I for one will be more rigorous about lifejackets in the dinghy in future.

We sometimes forget that even experienced sailors can get into difficulties on our lovely river. A tragedy. Rest in peace.
