It is time I got some paperwork.

Places seem to be advertising the two together?

I thought coastal skipper was pretty basic and yachtmaster was a different beast?

Are they taken together?

I have just done coastal/YM theory and coastal course. You can do the coastal exam as well as the coastal practical course. The course will give you a course completion ticket however this cannot be commercially endorsed.

If you go for the yachtmaster does this give any opportunities for employment - yacht delivery, skippering, training etc?

You can have the YM ticket commercially endorsed which means you can do delivery and charter skippering. In addition you would also have to hold a basic sea survival certificate, first aid and have a medical exam to the commercial endorsed.

To train others you will have to go on a crusing instructor 3 day course which would allow you to teach Day Skipper practical, to teach Yacht Master, you would be required to have at least 7,500 miles logged and to have been teaching DS.
