I am haveing some problems in cmapecs.
First and really the only major problem is in insert mariners object
It seems that I can put a mark on the chart for refuse bin and water tap, Is it possible to edit this and the icons it uses for things like fishing spot, Wreck, etc.
The other issues I have are to do with the arpa feature. Does any body know how to use it.
DGPS what is delta possition and why doesnt it tell me or i tell it the the fix it gets is from dgps as opposed to gps
Can I change how often the log logs
Can depth be displayed in this program
Any help would be much appreciated

Fair winds and following seas.

It's a pretty clunky bit of software, especially if you're using the old editions (1999-2001ish) that get bootlegged around. The manual is near useless and there's no "Help" function.

DGPS has to be input manually. There is no ability for the software to listen to the NMEA sentence that a differential unit speaks. Best turn it off because these days you dont need diff, now that selective availability has been turned off

Log feature is clunky in ECS. I never use it. You can clear them by finding the logs record via windows explorer. Perhaps the set up routine mentioned below allows you to set the frequency of logging?

Depth is displayed by selecting more chart detail. You do this either by right clicking on (from memory) the scale box or the box to the right of it, (a box top right of the screen anyway), and select "medium" or "lots" of detail. Alternatively you can go into the set up routine and slect chart features one by one, incl spot depth soundings

I dont know about insert object

Sorry this isnt much use. I'm in an airport lounge on a public PC so I dont have a puter with ECS in front of me. Will tomorrow

Taking advantage of your knowledge, when I have used a friends copy of this program I have had difficulty in getting the route bit to start off on the current date. Odd really since tha current date is recognised by other parts of the program like the tides. But I can find nothing to correct this - the date entry bit on route is greyed out.

Sorry, I dont know, never tried it birdseye. But maybe it's deliberately disabled....I cant think why time and date is relevant to a route. Or am I missing somehting obvious?

Not with the route per se, but when we tried to follow a route. It would have been handy to be able to see the time at turning points, destination etc. To be honest it was more of an irritant that it didnt work when everything else did work well.

Contrary to the poster above, I thought it was a good program, though I dont carry a computer on my boat and use only paper. Old fuddy duddy!

Ah, I see, sorry. Yes, AFAIK on the older version the route info is all based on time zero so it gives you time to each waypoint as in "2hours 10 mins", but not time of the day as in "4 o'clock".
