It seems many boats are out of the water now or didn't even launch this year, but I am planning a wee overnight jaunt somewhere in the Clyde on Thursday/Friday from Ardrossan but unsure where has visitor moorings down. I was thinking maybe Tighnabruaich or is it a safer bet just to head to Tarbert. I have been to Portavaddie a few times in the last couple of months and looking for somewhere different.

I passed by the moorings at Kames on friday and they’re all still there though they looked unserviced - not surprising. We chose to anchor at Blackfarland bay, very lovely it was too....

North Ayrshire (Ardrossan) is currently Level 3 while Argyll and Bute (Tighnabruaich, Tarbert, Portavadie) is Level 2. The current request/advice.recommendation for Level 3 is

so depending on where you come from it might be a kind act not to visit Argyll and Bute just for the moment. I'd like to visit my boat in Port Bannatyne, which is technically OK because Galloway is Level 2 as well and travel through higher levels is fine, but I think I'll leave it till things have calmed down a bit.

I’ve been assuming that we’re being asked to avoid all non essential travel to or within tier 3. I’ve also assumed that travel to check my boat is deemed non essential. Is this interpretation too strict?

The guidance at the moment only mentions "avoid any unnecessary travel to places in Level 3 or Level 4 areas" so I think travel within a higher level area is OK as long as we're going from lower level to lower level. Which makes sense, because if I don't stop the risk I pose between Galloway and Wemyss Bay is pretty minimal.

My boat is safely laid up, mast down for the first time in years and snug for the winter, so I don't count going to see her as essential. If there was stuff needing done to make her safe I might think differently. Since there are not, at the moment, any legal restrictions on travel I think it's a matter of common sense and community spiritedness.

It is guidance not law , and one can interpret their risk factor better than a goverment who cannot look at every possibility and give guidance to that activity.
So if you can go sailing and avoid anyone and be sensible we’re you go and who you interact with , then there is no real problems
When we had guidance for face masks and not law plenty did not wear them .
Each to their own risks and risk assessment.
Itravelled to my boat 30 miles away. and started the winterising with the lovely wife to keep me in check.
Did not interact with a soul, never met anyone, and I know get this. And I still carry a little bottle of sanitiser with me , so wash hands before touching trolley ,washed hands after . No picking of nose in between . Safe as a chocolate brick house

i dont believe you went all round asda without picking your nose once ,,, that not natural gov .

Nicola clarified the situation today:
'If you live in a level 3 area do not travel unless it's essential'
The first minister says if you live in a level 3 council area do not travel outside of that area, except for essential purposes.

Whether this applies to a wee cruise round the Clyde, anchoring overnight, not going ashore and returning from whence you came is a matter of personal conscience. For the OP may I recommend Millport and its moorings for this weekend. Always interesting in a brisk southerly!

I really dont think it has to be brought into every thread does it? There is a designated area where forumites can debate away until their hearts content about it. As an adult I think I am capable of making decisions on keeping on the right side of any laws.

It seems my post editing skills could do with some honing though

Why not anchor, then there is no chance of falling foul of the rules. Plenty of places to choose from.
