My boat seems to have picked up an excessive amount of weed below the waterline this season. Speed down by almost a knot, log impeller needs clearing every other week or so and, most woryingly, the cockipt drains have blocked with the stuff and need rodding through every time I visit to keep clear. Its my first season on the Clyde so I don't know whether this is normal, or whether I need to use a better antifouling. Anyone else had a problem on the Clyde this year?

Not so's you would notice, but I am on a loch which flushes through with a lot of fresh water when it rains (just about always).
I gave the waterline a scrub a few weeks ago to get rid of green vegetables in a strip 6" below the waterline. The prop is still clear with its coat of lanolin. The boat's been using the mooring since May 06.

No great problem at Troon, although I haven't donned the mask and snorkel recently......
There has been a little growth on the waterline but nothing a quick brush didn't deal with.

Based just roon the corner from Gordonmc and can confirm that bottom is very clean. Not a hint of weed or slime.

Blakes' Ocean Performer over 1000 miles since April. Very pleased

Hmm... Sounds like it is either a Gareloch thing or I need to spend a bit more on antifouling next year. Have been using the cheap stuff (XM cruising, 3 litres for £35) which had been fine on the Forth, but maybe weed is a bit more of a problem on the W coast. Thanks for the feedback chaps.

I have our boat in Loch Craignish, and am now the prowd owner of a reef!!! Here was me thinking I could put 2 coats of antifoul on and expect it to last 18 months.

TuT TuT! That sort of thing stopped some considerable time ago. The Dalmarnock and Shieldhall are long retired. In fact the Shield hall was last spotted as an 'attraction' in Southampton.....

I did notice in Irvine Bay last weekend that the wayer was a dark brown, but probably caused by the run off from the River Irvine....

Quite often like that after heavy rain and last Saturday it didn't stop the whole day, but I probably don't have to tell you about that.
