Had various oil change 'moments' over the years with cars such as not refitting sump plug before refilling, not putting oilcap back on(leaves engine bay very messy after a blast down the motorway)ect.

This reminds me of a story from long ago. A neighbour owned an old Renault rear engine sort of like a mini volkswagen which had a radiator cap external above the engine and below the rear window. He came out one morning to find the radiator cap missing and someone had drained his radiator. (thinking it was the fuel tank)
Hang in there it is possible to cope with old age witha grin. olewill

Until very recently I had an aging Pajero which I was about to drive 150km to the city so I thought I'd check the oil before I headed off. I knew I had a container of oil but couldn't find it so I "borrowed" some of my son's. As I was pouring it in it was a very yellow oil: I thought strange looking oil but thought nothing more of it as the name on the side of the oil container was not familiar either.

I drove the car to the city and parked it in the car park and as I got out I realised it absolutely stank!! It smelled as though it was going to blow up. I wasn't the only one who smelled the car either as people gathered around the car park and looked at my car (from a distance) with worried looks. Two guys did a detour to get into the shopping mall entrance! Of course I was embarrassed so I quickly distanced myself from the car then casually walked into shopping mall.

On leaving I didn't look around but made a bee-line for the car, threw the goods in and off I went!!

So what about the rest of the story. What was it you acually put in the engine and did the engine survive? olewill

My Son was aghast when I told him that I had his oil in my motor (he did tell me what it was but it was something I'm not familiar with) I was wild because I have told both my sons never to put contaminated material in an engine oil or hydraulic brake fluid containers.

I drove back home and drained/ flushed the oil and filled with new oil and used the "old girl" for another 3 years. It was a 1990 model and parts were a bit hard to get because "we don't stock parts for vintage cars" I decided to retire it recently but with much regret.

I live near the beach and sand hills which are used by off road bikes/cars for recreational use. On a number of occasions people have knocked on my door late in the evening asking me to pull them out. I always refused but always relented. On one occasion when I refused some young Asian people one delightful 24 yr old woman came up wrapped her arms firmly around me, looked into my face and said "Please!!!". (I felt like a 17 year old again)

The Pajero would go anywhere and after I had pulled them out she immediately got it bogged again. I pull her out (again) then she asked me if she could give me a hug and kiss! Of course I didn't want to but I gave in because I believe we should all play our part in fostering good international relationships.

We had a kid who's 50cc learner two stroke trailbike blocked the exhaust port and silencer with alarming regularity.

When Yamaha asked us a couple of questions about the first warranty claim-which they met-we asked the young man to bring a sample of the oil he was putting in the little remote tank.

He was using oil his dad gave him.

His dad was the local chippy.

It was Mazola corn oil!

This makes very flaky soft carbon-ideal for blocking exhaust ports and silencers on two strokes.

On the plus side it pongs a bit but seemed to lube the whizzy round bits OK.
