Clipper Marine Appointed as UK Bavaria Dealership for Sailing Yachts
Bavaria Yachtbau has today announced the appointment of Clipper Marine as the new UK dealership for German manufactured Bavaria Sailing Yachts.
The new company, Clipper Marine, founded by three partners Richard Hewett, Matthew Attree and Johnny Cochran have over forty years combined experience in the marine industry and are keen boaters themselves. Clipper Marine is now the main dealership for Bavaria Yachts across the UK.
The creation of this new company supports Bavaria Yachtbau’s leading position within the marine industry. Existing Bavaria owners can instantly benefit from the experience of the Clipper Marine Team based at Northney Marina, Hayling Island. The Directors of Clipper Marine will take an overall responsibility for the strategic development of Bavaria yacht sales and customer after care service throughout the UK.
Mike Reuer, General Sales Manager at Bavaria Yachtbau commented, “I am delighted to announce the formation of Clipper Marine as the new dealer for Bavaria Yachts in the UK – the three Directors bring with them an abundance of skills and experience and a proven track record with the Bavaria brand.”
Clipper Marine will proudly host the launch of Bavaria’s new 31 and 34 foot cruiser models at Southampton Boat Show on Friday September 14th. The launch party will take place on stand F009 at 12:45 all are invited; Clipper Marine Directors will be available for interview.
Current Bavaria owners will have time to chat with the Clipper Marine Team over drinks and canapés from 4pm onwards on Saturday, September 15th at stand F009.
And no, I think it is a very dodgy idea, unless these guys can demonstrate that in NO way were they responsible for the collapse of PetersOpal and the financial losses suffered by its customers (if such should prove to be the case). And as ex-MDs, it's difficult to deny responsibility, unless they were in dereliction of duty as a director.

Mind you if American banks can have hundreds of Vice-Presidents why can't companies have lots of MDs?

You are right about VPs, some start-up IT companies hand this title out like smarties, however membership of the board of directors is a key difference.

Hmmmm - experience of going bust and dropping lots of people in the dark and smelly.
I dont know which is worse, innacurate reporting or ill informed comment?
These three guys may have had nothing to do with the insolvency. They may even be guys out of a job because of what happened and be placing their faith in Bavaria as much as Bavaria are placing faiith in them. I can hardly see Bavaria backing a liason that they think might fail because of customers having no faith in the people involved?
If I have a concern, its the hope over reality syndrome that often follows a company failure where redundant employees try to hang on to past glory with no real business plan and sink their savings or mortgage their properties and subsequently fail again because of inadequate planning and resources.
Can I point out as an ex employee of Peters Opal, being made redundant by the administrator. I am very angry at the directors of the now failed company, and those that are tarring ex employees (not directors) with the same brush, many of us are trying to rebuild our lives within the marine industry.
To clarify that the new Bavaria dealer Clipper Marine has no links to the Directors of Peters Opal or to the new Opal Marine, and are in fact victims financially through lost wages, holidays, commission and not to forget that it was with great sadness and helplessness that we had to inform customers of the situation, not actually knowing anything ourselves.
As to Clipper Marine it is made up of Ex EMPLOYEES, this is a new company where like minded ex employees who believe in the Bavaria range, being more in “control of their own destiny” and wanting to provide a good customer service to try and build faith back into Motor/Sail industry that the last past few months has tried to destroy.
If you look at the new Opal marine company with two directors of Peters Opal at the helm more questions should be directed in that direction but wish all our old employee friends best wishes. Clipper Marine are putting into place assurances and customer protection so the Peters Opal situation could never happen again. I am not a member of this new team but feel that some one should defend and allow a more accurate picture be given.
Boatsales - you say no one at Clipper had responsibility for PetersOpal, but the press announcement says the three principles were directors...
"Bavaria announced that a new company, Clipper Marine, formed by three former managing directors at Peters Opal, was to become its dealer in the UK."
I'm perfectly prepared to accept that the press report is inaccurate, but if these guys were any sort of board directors within PetersOpal, then they bear some responsibility for the failure.
Let me wish you good luck in what must be a difficult time.
I can confirm that none of the three where directors of Peters Opal and infact one had only worked at PO for 7 months. Give them a fair chance and judge on only the facts.
Well said - your anger is understandable, and it is highly desirable to clear up any misunderstandings - especially as this clarification comes from an 'insider'. Best of luck to you, all the entire engineering team, all the boatyard support services, valeting team, and many other former EMPLOYEES who have been completely wiped out by these events.
As my yacht (Jeanneau) is based in Ipswich I know one of the new directors of Clipper Marine "Johnny Cochran". I would just like to say that I have always found Jonny to be a man of high Integraty which is a lot more then you can say about a lot of people in this industry. I wish him and his new partners all the best for the future. Should I ever wish to buy a Bavaria know who to seem.
