Hi,

I am interested in the clinker boat kits for dinghies - such as the barrow boat company,or merryman boats. Has anyone built one of these, or can recommend them for an amateur first build?

I built a "Nutshell" 9ft stem dinghy back in 1991 and I can thoroughly recommend this kit, and the boat that comes out of it - still in regular use as a tender.

Hi
We built an 8ft Barrowboat back in 95, and it was fun to do, with no previous experience, though it took longer than the 'couple of weekends' suggested.
It is an excellent load-carrier -- 3 or even 4 adults OK , rows well with one person, OK with more, but I'm still trying to het it to sail properly. I expect I am doing it all wrong.
By the way, the method of wheeling it along provides infinite amusement to passers-by.

Built a 6 foot Merryman pram about 10 years ago - watch for plank fits as you screw the planks to the transoms, otherwise you end up with gaps between the lands which are too wide for the epoxy (obvious I know, but it nearly got me.....)

On the sailing side, fitting a fairly stiff batten to the foot of the sail helped a lot with shape, as without it the draft ran forward far too far and the sail collapsed forwards off the wind.

Finally, try putting a 2HP honda four stroke on it - gets quite exciting at full throttle.....
