Having had Raymarine on all of our other 10 boats I would have never changed away from them but the new boat had Garmin installed by default. I have added a few extra screens and an AIS and video cameras. What great kit, works well and feels good quality (weight of the VHF handset for example) Takes some getting used to as the range adjustment seems to work against logic.

Ordered the Homeport PC software but not that impressed and couldn't transfer the 200 waypoints I had entered into the Raymarine Software.

So which bit is the clever move?

There are a number ways of converting Raytech or Navionics waypoint data to Garmin files. I'll try and dig out the notes. It's a while since we migrated.

3 or so months into it, i'm loving the Garmin stuff. It's not 100% perfect but it's close. I don't get your range adjustment comment. You just touch or tap + and - to zoom, don't you?

I can't help you on waypoints. I started off with a colour big screen plotter back in 1999 and have logged 15000 cruising miles since, and I have never ever entered a route or waypoint into a plotter's permanent memory (except when I had to jettison an anchor once, so I entered a waypoint to find it the next day). i honestly can't see the point :D

Beware the connector that you plug the VHF handset curly wire into. Bit flimsy. They do lots of returns on these
