Clever ideas for cabin tables...

My Horizon 26 has the standard type of cabin table for it's class. When opening the leaves my legs tend to get in the way unless I open the table up before I sit down. I'd like to be able to open and close the table while I'm sat.

I'm pondering some kind of arrangement where the leaves of the table fold up and then slide down rather than fold down. But before I get too deep into that... has anyone tried any better ideas at all please?

Could you make your table like the cockpit table I hope I have attached. I suspect that the width of the leaf might be too narrow to give the open size you need, but could you not apply the same folding principle to each drop leaf? I hope I explain it in the diagram.
You would have to clip the hinged flap together to stop it falling open when lowered.
 
I removed the complicated folding table with three legs from my cabin and fitted one of these from K&J Howells in Poole:

on a removable pillar. It's a bit like yours, if Google is to be trusted, but with the leaves folding up instead of down. You'd need to do something cunning about the mast - cutout? mount the table behind it? - but there may be a solution that way.
 
You could hinge the outer 6 inches of the table leaf upwards as the rest of the leaf folds down. This would accommodate your legs at the main leaf folds down normally. Counter top hinges would keep the working table surface smooth.

I have the same trouble with my table, but I never thought about trying to make space for my legs, but I might try it now.

Got the Howells table as my Christmas Present. It's beautifully made and extremely practical. Comes in 3 sizes also and can easily be stowed away when required.

Yes, they look good - but if none would fit, Howells also offer the hinges in packs of 4, for those who choose to make their own 3-leaf tables: http://www.kjhowells.com/product245.html. (They seem to be very slightly longer than Häfele's, though the latter do come in a range of finishes http://www.hafele.co.uk/shop/p/flap-and-table-hinges/self-supporting-folding-table-hinge/10367/4896.)
