There is a report in the Reading Post about the proposed letting of Cleeve lock cottage. Apparently there is a problem with the access road and the couple hoping to rent the cottage have pulled out. The article rambles on a bit about their dream move being dashed and who is responsible. I always read newspaper reports with a healthy degree of scepticism, but this must be a problem for many of the lock sites.

Anybody got any info?

The EA were set to rent out a total of nine lock cottages over the next couple of years, including Cleeve which was advertised pre xmas at £1200 pcm. This was subsequently reduced to £995 pcm and then withdrawn altogether.

Following user group representations the EA have now agreed that only 5 lock-side cottages will be let - Sunbury, Chertsey, Goring and Grafton and Blakes at the entrance to the K&A - and that the situation will be reviewed in a years time. The EA have stated that they now intend, in the meantime, to occupy any empty lock cottages with EA staff.
