I think I may have a dog hair wrapped driveshaft in my pump. Anyone know if that plate over the impeller is meant to be removed? Those ribs look like finger grips but it doesn't feel like it wants to move. (The symptoms are that it will 'almost' start for a fraction of a second, and then almost instantly starts properly for about a second - and then does nothing at all, not even after the couple on minutes it's supposed to self start. My hunch is that the built-in intelligence is sensing that it's too stiff and shutting it down.

Is it an option to soak in hair remover, might dissolve it and allow to flush, just a thought

Might go for rubber seals? I could try waxing strips...

I'm going to get a bit of bent wire in a drill chuck to spin it backwards while flushing but I'm not convinced that there's any more hair left in there.

I had hoped that it was just overheated because it successfully pumped out about 50 gallons before I got bored of holding the wires onto the battery yesterday. I went to restart it it and this happened.

I've emailed Rule/Xylem more in hope than expectation, but I don't need it until April/May so I'm not going to break it apart just yet.

Of course, it's all my fault for recommending it on this very forum as a reliable solution for open keelboats.
