Washing machine, (not recommended if you have hard eyes spliced in!).A drop of bleach in pre-wash then normal 40C wash does it nicely for mine.

SWMBO also says it'll be quite OK - "will just get a new machine if there's any sorta problem"!

Two words of warning. First you will be blamed for any fault the machine ever develops in the future. Second, last time I did ropes in the washing machine the core of one burst through the outer sheath in many places. It was pobably past its prime but as it was only the topping lift I was a bit miffed that washing definitely ended its days.

Vic - Thanks but got your warning too late - fortunately no damage done so (very) tactfully got SWMBO to certify all OK.
Ropes nice and softer now but still got some green in the threads.
