I just found out the expensive way that you do not clean perspex with isopropanol alcohol. I know some boat windows are made of perspex, and if you ever need to degrease something IPA is commonly used. But not on perspex.
If you've not tried it, it causes extensive, creeping cracking, which leads to the perspex breaking up into ever smaller pieces of a period of hours or less. Quite spooky to watch.

Yes it is called stress cracking, and almost all Perspex type acrylics suffer from the problem. The actual cracks are not very deep and will not profoundly affect the strength of the material, so you should not worry too much until the end of the season. There is by the way a very good cutter of Perspex in Waterlooville, who when I took the 18 windows from my Evasion cut the whole lot same day.

If you really want some fun, do as my wife did and try and stick back the rear view mirror on the car using superglue, and watch the windscreen crack - MOT failure as well - least they dont have that on boats yet

There's a better use for India Pale Ale too

[/ QUOTE ] When he said IPA he meant propan-2-ol /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BTW the cutter of persex in Waterlooville is Sunlight plastics. There is also Talking Plastics not many million miles away in Horndean
