cleaning out carb crud

My Honda BF8 outboard has not been used for the past 18 months.

Anyway, planning to get back on the water and found the carb bowl full of goo. I thought I had drained the carb before putting it away but a friend has told me that our boat store may have been awash during the winter storms, and thereby the engine flooded. Possibly.

I have been trying to strip down the carb but there is a lot of crystaline corrosion and the jet tube is siezed in. I have tried soaking in WD40 with no luck. Can anyone suggest a good solvent/cleaner to free things up? I am considering soaking in CocaCola

If its gum from petrol, then white spirit will dissolve it nicely.
Crystals are likely to be salts so i'd try boiling the carb in water to remove them.

Honda Carb.

I have a vintage Honda OB.
The older Honda s are famous for having idle jets that are too small and will block with tiny water droplets, flea droppings and other things that might make it thru the fuel filter.
CRC Carb and Choke cleaner is my friend.
While i have dismantled carb. a couple of times, removing the idle adjuster screw completely and spraying CRC in has also saved trouble on a couple of occasions. (I think one of local service stations that i use must have crappy storage tanks as i can go for a long time with no problems, but i haven't identified the culprit yet.)
CRC Carb and choke cleaner is full of lovely volatiles that if inhaled, will stop you worrying about your outboard problems, financial worries and mortality.
