The algea and black mould or what ever it i that stick to decks over the winter must be a different strain here in Stranraer than other places as I tried oalic acid at 20% and also cilit bang, both foam and oven cleaner and it has removed about 85% of algea but only 25% of the black stuff and that is leaving the oalic on for an hour and the cilit a per instruction on the can and that a ith furious scrubbing any other magic bullets anyone.
In desperation I tried biological laundry powder - two tablets to a bucket of hot water. Scrubbed on, it removed both green gunge and the grey traffic film. Much cheaper than any specialised product, and highly efficacious. Next time I will wear rubber gloves, though.
We had that black staining all over our boat too - we're moored quite close to a ferry terminal to assumed that it's the fall out from the crappy fuel they use.
