There have been previous threads on here about using patio cleaner to get rid of the green mould and black spots from teak decks.

Last year I tried it and was amazed at the results. It took half an hour to do and I was left with clean, fresh looking teak without hardly any work. It was one idea I got from the forums that was worth it's weight in gold.

I am going to the large DIY store (Leyroy Merlins) in France today toget some more but I cannot remember the two active ingredients I am looking for on the product. Please can someone remind me?

Thank you

No stains.. just dilute it, put it on with a brush and leave it. Over the next few day you will look forward to waking up as each day the deck just gets cleaner and cleaner .. i was really amazed. Lasts about six months to a year and then just re apply.
Don't know about spay hoods but I am sure someone will answer than soon.

Best idea I have ever found on the forum

Can't help with the product name from Leroy, but a dangerous to the environment label (orange with a withered tree and dead fish), is a good start.

The environmentally neutral products are very laudable but just don't work.

Boracol is what I've always used, with great results..

I bl**dy hate my teak, just come back from the boat after a few hard hours of getting up my caulking...

I use Brintons Patio Magic, contains benzalkonium chloride , on teak decks, sprayhood and ropes works a treat. Treated in Sept 2010, and just beginning to look like needs doing again. Probably not as good as Borocol but much much cheaper, about £18 for 5 litres, diluted 4:2 (bad condition) up to 9:1 (moderate condition). No staining on GRP. 1 litre diluted 4:1 treated all above.

The french love their cleaning an chemical so you can get anything from supermarket shelves, acid, acetone, and the various cleaning products that can be used on Teak.
There is about 10 makes all with the ingredients in but usually you will see Anti-Mousse concentre on the bottle. They are concentrated so will need diluting but it should last a few years in its bottle.
Cost is between 11 euros and 24 euros...

For the last 2 years I have used Polycell 3 in 1 mould cleaner available from B&Q, on my decks, it's brilliant. One application and the green disappears during a week and lasts for at least a year. When you apply it, pick a time when there is no rain forecast for a couple of days, so it doesn't wash off. It looks like water but it is toxic so wear goggles as splashes are dangerous to eyes. Just paint it on with a large brush and leave it. It does not stain or affect the teak in any way. Works on spray hoods, ropes etc as well. :)

Thanks Paul,
Manage to find the patio stuff here which is far cheaper than 3 in 1 but has the same stuff in it.
I put some on last year and got the same results as you.I just could not remember what was in it.

Where does Oxalic Acid Hull, Deck & GRP Cleaner fit into the process as opposed to using the B&Q product, better worse or just different.

I need to deep clean my teak cockpit floor.

Graham

The ones you mention are GRP cleaners and apart from a detergent effect won't help the teak much. Much of the darkening of teak is actually mould rather than dirt. Assuming your cockpit sole is teak strips rather than a grating, I would give it a light wash (with anything, boat wash or salt water) and when it has dried use one of of the mould-killers mentioned and you will be amazed at the difference. If you want to achieve a "raw wood" effect you will have to use one of the special treatments but you will be committing yourself to much more work.

A product called wet and forget is fantastic on timber and only needs to be applied once a year.

It kills moss and mould the prevents further growth. No rubbing, no scrubbing, just sptay on and your done. However the first application will clean not your timber over night, it uses rain to do the washing.

Good luck and fair winds. :)
