Cleaning GRP decks (gently)...

I agree that jet washers should go no where near teak decks. My late father years ago had a deck cleaned ready for a sale by a very well known south coast boatyard and they ruined the inlaid teak covered infill sections on the coachroof. It had to be lifted and new laid. The same way teak should never be cleaned with a brush along the grain, but always across. The grain is really quite open and the natural teak oils fills the grain, pressure washing frives out the oils and leaves open grain than then collects dirt and wears faster.

Thanks for all the responses. I have some credit at the Pirates Cave (TM), so I'll go and load up on the more expensive Starbrite Deck stuff (I might have the booze down the pub too regardless of which version I get) and some Y10 for me rusty bits. I have a domestic pressure washer, so I'll scrub the deck stuff lightly on first, leave it for five minutes, then pressure wash all the open areas, before scrubbing and wiping the final areas around the deck fittings and windows. I'll report back when the water is pouring through my windows and deck fittings .
