Has anyone heard about using a mix of hull cleaner mixed with liquid patio cleaner to restore badly stained or tarnished gel coat and deck areas of GRP yachts.

Re: Cleaning GEl coat on deck with mix of Patio Cleaner and Hull Clean

Patio Cleaner has hydrochloric acid at 8% dilution, among the ingredients, and it works well on grp hull. I have used it on out boat, and it removes, not only grime build-up, but rust staining, and river water staining very well. I used Mer polish over the hull after washing with fresh slightly soapy (washing up liquid) water.

There is an Australian product with 10% hydrochloric acid as a gel made by khsurfacetech.aust.com (who do not appear to still be trading). I brought some back with me many years ago, and it has almost gone now.

Another good cleaner/polish is Wadpol, that is used on aircraft skins. It was used on jet aircraft in my RN days. This can remove all sorts of gunge, and leaves a polished finish.
