usual collection of old fenders, some with a slightly stick surface. Any tips on how to clean them please?

I'm sure someone previously suggested drain cleaner?

If you are in the UK get some Skipper's Choice, its a biodegradable product, we've found it great for cleaning the sides of our boat and fenders all without too much elbow grease as well.:)

I have used acetone in the past which worked ok - a quick wipe over, and then clean with soapy water. No harm done and came up reasonably clean.

I've had good results with Lidl paint brush cleaner (sold under the "BAUFIX" brand name). AFAIK it's a blend of different solvents so, if one doesn't do the job one of the others will. Cheap as chips and better than anything else that I've tried.

Good on the inflatabubble too.

Water-rinsable brush cleaner is the thing, according to an article in this month's Good Old Boat magazine.
I've used straight acetone but it can be harsh if you're not careful and melt too much of the surface, leading to smearing. Water-rinsable brush cleaner (not the oily stuff) doesn't have this problem.

I'll second that - Skipper's Choice is very versatile stuff - you can rub it in neat for serious stains or use it hot or cold at a variety of concentrations depending on the context. At high concentrations it will remove some serious dirt!

If you polish them when they are new (yes I know) it is surprising how well they come up with ordinary cleaners in subsequent years. Have a look on line for some cheap deals if you buy e.g. 4 together.
