How do you clean the many brass fittings found in an engine room which, over time, have become tarnished and slightly corroded?

Once cleaned, what do you use to minimise further corrosion?

Thank you!

If having brass fittings gleaming and polished is important to you, then the only thing I can think of suggesting is to enjoy polishing or employ someone to do it.

Slight tarnishing will come off with any standard metal polish. You have to repeat often because I believe hot metal tarnishes more quickly.

After carrying out engine bay PDI's we would then protect brass, bronze, copper pipes, cadmium plate and bare steel fittings with a few coats of clear laquer from an aerosol tin. Would also spray all electrical cable ends and connectors with clear waxoyl.
Very satisfactory results and last a long time. Even applied vaseline to the nav light bulbs!
Never worked out away to make the horns last any time though.
